A human approach to counselling.
Hi, I’m Nina, counsellor and founder of Open Mynd.
My path into counselling came through a change in direction of my own. It led me towards work that felt meaningful and gave me the opportunity to support people through the parts of life that can be difficult to make sense of alone.
The way I work is warm, straightforward and personal. I want counselling to feel like a conversation you can settle into, without needing to speak in a certain way or fit yourself neatly into a particular box.
There is room for the serious stuff, of course. There is also room for personality, honesty and humour when it feels right.

Why Open Mynd
The name Open Mynd came from the idea that sometimes a different perspective can change what we see.
Counselling can create space to understand what is happening, recognise patterns, consider another way of looking at things and make choices that feel more aligned with the life you want to live.
You don’t need to arrive with an answer. My role is to listen, ask questions, support you and help make sense of what we find along the way.
Just bring yourself and your concerns. We’ll move from there.
Evidence-based counselling matters to me, but so do empathy, kindness, life experience and the ability to connect with another person.
Counselling doesn’t need to feel formal or clinical to be valuable. I believe people are more able to speak openly and explore difficult things when they feel comfortable enough to be themselves.
That is the experience Open Mynd provides.
Professional, without losing the human part.
How I work
Therapy should fit the person, not the other way around.
No two people bring the same experiences, personality or needs into the room, so I don’t work from one fixed formula.
I draw from a blend of evidence-based therapeutic approaches and use them in a way that feels relevant to you and what we are working through together.
The approach may change as our work does. What matters is that the support remains thoughtful, useful and suited to the person in front of me.
Person-Centred Therapy
You lead the way. This ensures you have a warm, safe, and completely judgment-free space to explore your feelings and build self-trust.
Trauma-Informed Care
Your past matters. I prioritise your physical and emotional safety by understanding how your past experiences and survival strategies shape your present life.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Rewire your habits. We will look at how your thoughts affect your emotions and actions, giving you tools to break negative mental loops.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Embrace and move forward. You will learn to accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, allowing you to take action aligned with your personal values.
Solution-Focused Therapy
Build your future. We focus on your current strengths and resources to set practical, achievable goals for the life you want to live.
What a session looks like
Individual and couples appointments run for approximately 50 minutes.
There is no special way you need to prepare. Bring what is on your mind and we’ll work through it together, with your own concerns, priorities and goals guiding the conversation.
Depending on what you need, sessions may involve talking something through, understanding patterns, exploring another perspective or introducing practical tools and strategies.
The aim is to help you recognise your own strengths and move towards a life that feels more aligned with what matters to you.
